Closet

I finally went through my closet! Here are the rules I came up with for myself...

*Make four piles: throw away, keep, donate, store

*I only stored the things I KNOW I will wear when I loose the weight to get into it

*It is ok to throw away clothing

*Get rid of anything I havent worn in over a year (except for formal wear or special occasion pieces)

Really its that basic :) More to come...sorry I havent done a whole lot lately! BUT I am still maintaining everything I have done

Headband Organizer

I was looking on pinterest for ways to organize hair accessories, especially headbands. I have a cute little organizer to clippies and bows but nothing for little brushes, headbands and hair ties so I found something similar to this and made it! Mine opens up still so you can put things inside. It is a canister decorated with scrapbook paper....again. :)

Giving Yourself Permission

One of the best things I have done for myself is to let myself have one or two messy spaces while trying to organize the rest. My messy space right now is my room. I keep trying to get to it but I say having 9 clean spaces and 1 messy space is better than 10 messy spaces. Things take time. They say if you want to lose weight it takes time to put it on and takes time to take it off, there is no instant fix. The same applies to organization. It just takes time. More to come on organizing a small bedroom/office soon!!!

Got Kids?

I have three little ones and they are all under 3! Needless to say, cleaning can be a little bit interrupted sometimes! I used to find that I wanted to spend time with my children rather than organize or clean but I have learned there are ways to get things done and feel like I have spent quality time with my kids. I always try to tell my kids what is going on "Okay, mommy has to clean now so I need you to (go play, have quiet time, etc) Here are some things you can do to keep your little ones occupied while you clean!

*Make them a fort and let them read books set aside just for times like this
*Have them sit at the table and give them raisins and carrots. Ask them to make you pictures or shapes using the healthy snack
*Sit and color a picture (I put my one year old in her high chair and give her one crayon)
*Invest in a baby gate and have them play in their room...they can still see what is going on but are focused on toys. If their room isn't baby proof or clean make this your first priority! It has saves me SO many times :)
* Get them involved! If there are little things they can throw away ask them to/show them how. If you are cleaning windows hand them paper towel and show them how you do it! Kids LOVE to do what we do
*For older kids, you can let them count change or organize coins. My oldest loves doing this and I save it for occasions just like this
*Put on some music and ask them to have a dance party with you! Pause in the middle of projects to show them how YOU boogie down.
*Make things available for them so they can help. I put my kids' socks in a basket and it is in a place where the kids can get to it. When I am doing laundry I hand them a pair here and there and they know that they can contribute in that way. As I hand them a pair I ask them questions about the prints or colors! I am telling you, there are learning opportunities everywhere!

Do you have any special "methods" you use on your children to get your house somewhat live able??? : )

A Clear Mind

Just something to reflect on :)

          Phillipians 4:8

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Jewelry Oragnizer

I was going through my jewelry one day and realized there were a lot of CUTE things I was not wearing...thinking on it further I realized that I would probably wear more if I knew what I had. This idea is not only functional but makes my wall look so cute!
Jewelry organizer
Cork board and all of my "pretties" (as my daughter would call them)
Quilting pins-variety of colors to use
I just used double sided scrap booking tape squares
Find card stock or scrap booking paper and get creative
Hang jewelry on quilting pins
Viola! I suppose you could even paint the border of the board for extra pop : )

A Day at a Time

One of the biggest things I have told myself during all of this is...I need to take it one day at a time. Do NOT try to take on everything all at once. Pick a room for each day of the week and do it.

Helpful hints for organizing:

1.) Make four piles: throw away, donate, garage sale/ebay, keep
2.) Keep anything that: has a purpose...period. If it's purpose is being aesthetically pleasing-great! If it makes you annoyed...do something else with it!
3.) Get rid of things that you haven't used in a while...if you need it later you can go an get another one. Let things and materialistic things flow in and out of your home. It's just stuff.
4.)Find a system that works for you and use it! Just because something works for someone doesn't mean it it the best method for yourself and that is OKAY
5.)Once you finish a room keep up on it...and if that is the only room that stays pretty for a week at least you did that!
6.)If you look at something and it takes you less than five minutes to complete, DO IT. (two dirty dishes, shoes and jackets in the living room, junk mail on the kitchen table.) Clean as you go

How This All Started

Hello Reader! Welcome to my newest blog about becoming organized! This journey is a new one for myself and I hope that you will bear with me as I make mistakes and learn along the way.

This whole thing started simply because 2011 was just too CHAOTIC! When I say chaotic I mean... being pregnant with two little ones/husband losing his job/worst pregnancy ever/big changes with church and friends/struggling to make ends meet... chaotic. There were so many things happening that the LAST thing I would want to do would be clean up the house or make a nice meal or invest in myself.  After having my newest addition to the family, I noticed that everything was spiraling out of my control and I just needed to fix it! So I stepped back and asked myself, "What do I have control over?" and here are the three things I came up with.

1.) I have control over my Faith. The Lord has given me His Word, His Love, His Son, AND the power of prayer. These are things that need to be incorporated into my every moment of every day. Living in such a harsh and broken world I find myself needing Him more and more.

2.) I have control over my house. My house was meant to be a home to find refuge and security from the world. Proverbs 24:3,4 says "3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. " I realized that I can turn my home into a place I long to be, not a prison of my clutter and disorganization.

3.) I have control over my health. I have put my health on the back burner for a long time, if I had time to work out I had time to be cleaning or doing dishes or something else. If goal 1 and goal 2 are met then there should be plenty of room in my life for my own health, which the Lord finds important too, 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. "

This brings me to my next realization. If God wants my home and my body to be a wise place where He is glorified....what is the key? The key is keeping it simple. So many times people run around thinking they need to do a million good works to get into the gates of Heaven, when really, God has made it so simple for us. Faith. It is all so simple....and here goes my best foot forward on making my life simplified and glorifying to Him.
